Join me for Creative Writing courses at Adult Community Learning Essex. I will be teaching Creative Writing Unleash Your Potential at the Wilson Marriage Centre in Colchester (hybrid), and a Podcasting collaboration with Lewis Walsh in October.
Join us at Colchester WriteNight on a monthly basis, fourth Monday of the month, 7pm, Quaker Meeting House. All welcome.
This year I am running the National Saturday Writing & Talking Club for Essex Book Festival at Anglia Ruskin University. If you are, or know, a Chelmsford teen interested in fiction, poetry, spoken word, podcasting, zine-making and more… come and join us for this (free) opportunity to create, and share your work at Somerset House!
I am a Fixed Term Teacher (FHEA) at the University of Essex and for the last seven years have taught Creative Writing including Writing Structures and Poetry, Origins and Transformations in Literature, Postmodern Literature and Memory Maps (masters) modules. I’m also an experienced and qualified primary teacher, and having taught in all areas of education for over 20 years, am able to adapt easily to different educational environments.
I work for Essex Book Festival and have led short fiction/creative writing and performance workshops for Essex and Felixstowe Book Festivals over the last five years, as well as interviewing/introducing authors. Last year I was part of a collaboration between Essex Book Festival, Historic England, and the Beach of Dreams project Collecting Dreams, Shifting Futures at Orford Ness Nature Reserve, working with digital artist Lucia Barbagallo and archivist Glenys Newton on writing and digital workshops, exploring and gathering stories in this remarkable National Trust location. I coordinated the Spoken Word Power project (a project run by Eastside, bringing performance poets into schools), the Manifesto for Essex youth climate action project, including eco-poetry workshops for year 5/6s in Tendring schools, and a series of Creative Writing Workshops at the Lakeside Theatre, University of Essex.
